When most of us think of Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center (SDPC), we think of it as one of the main retailers of Chevrolet Performance crate engine and performance parts, as well as some hardware of their own design for small-block, big-block, and modern LS/LT GM engines. Well, for the last several years, they’ve opened their doors to Ford and Mopar fans as well. Now a go-to source for Ford Performance and Direct Connection, you can now order crate engines, camshafts, cylinder heads and much more from SDPC.
Recently, as an R&D test to learn which cam produces the most horsepower, torque, and learn about their respective curves, Dane Arnold of SDPC strapped a 392 HEMI crate engine to the dyno and laid out a selection of different camshafts. To dig in a little deeper, they also swapped the stock intake for a Holley Hi-Ram, as well an an older 6.1-liter intake that was last seen on the 2010 SRT8 Charger and Challenger.
There’s also a test comparison of the OEM Mopar ECU, against the Holley Dominator ECU. To ensure that the valvetrain can handle all of the testing and high-RPM revs on the engined no, a valvespring upgrade is going into the mix as well. Through various combinations, tuning, and testing, the engine ultimately cranked out over 600hp on the engine dyno. Which combination worked best? That’s for you to find out in the video hosted above.
