Barn Find: 1971 Dodge Coronet Crestwood Wagon

As far as muscle wagons go, this is about as rare as it gets. It’s one of only four 1971 Dodge Coronet Crestwood wagons ever built. It’s powered by a 440ci engine that’s backed by a Pistol Grip 4-speed transmission — a pretty nasty setup!

This wagon has been under the knife for restoration, but isn’t exactly a show car. Sometimes, having a less-than-perfect car can be a benefit, this makes it a lot easier to put it on the road without the stress of trying to keep it in concourse condition.

The engine and transmission were overhauled in 2012 to include an Edelbrock 650cfm carb and set of ceramic coated headers. This drivetrain feeds into a factory posi rearend with 3.55:1 gears. It’s also equipped with a/c, power steering, and power brakes from the factory, so it’s going to feel a tad bit more modern than a lot of other wagons that survived the era.

There’s something simple, yet aggressive about the way this wagon looks. White is a color that seems to only look good on muscle cars and sports cars, and this is a great example of that. The paint isn’t perfect and there’s some visible bubbles forming, but again, having an imperfect collectible isn’t always a bad thing.

On the inside, you’re going to find a restored interior, but there is a small puncture hole in the driver seat. The tach is also broken, but the rest of the interior is pretty spiffy. It has a AM/FM stereo and can seat nine people — let’s see your SUV or minivan do that and still look cool as hell! Judging by the Power Tour stickers on the windshield and glovebox, this car was already owned by a gearhead, and has probably seen some interesting times.

This mythical beast is currently listed on Hemmings for $24,900, and the ad states that its appraised at $28K — so it could be a steal.
