We love classic Impalas here at Timeless Muscle. They are cars that just drip with style, and borrow elements from the rest of the Chevy line to make a really cool machine. Now throw in a 409 engine in one, and you’ve really got our attention! That’s why when this Impala SS powered by the rare 409 engine showed up for sale on eBay, it was time for a share.
The ’64 Impala SS cars, when equipped with the 409 engine like this one, are amongst the rarest and most desirable classic Impalas out there. These engines were so impressive that the Beach Boys even wrote a song about them, appropriately named 409. Outside of enamoring the Beach Boys, the 6.7-liter, 409 cubic-inch Chevy Big-Block V-8 was a really great engine. It came along originally in the 1962 models to replace the 348 engine.
They could only be ordered with a 4-speed manual transmission or a Powerglide slush box, and reached the most horsepower in 1964 with 425 hp on hand, courtesy of dual 4-bbl. carbs. This monster engine made more than 1 horsepower per cubic inch, had a 11.25:1 compression ratio, and solid-lifter camshaft.
In addition to the 409 powering it, this Impala SS is a piece of art. With only a little over 46K miles on the clock, the Tuxedo Black hardtop looks brand new. It’s super clean interior is another notable characteristic of this sleek ride. The car is even equipped with some top level options for its time, including power brakes, power steering, power windows, power locks, and factory A/C. This is a muscle car fanatic’s dream! Check out the listing here, and happy bidding.
