MetalWorks is a high end classic car restoration shop that specializes in Pro-Touring builds, and speciality swaps. When this Mustang made its way into MetalWorks Classic Auto Restoration for some work, it left a much better car. It got a few touches to nearly every part of the fastback, for what added up to be a pretty big overhaul.

This 1965 Mustang Fastback rolled into MetalWorks with a fresh 347 cubic inch engine, and needed a few upgrades. The shop topped off the 347 build with a MSD Atomic fuel-injection system. They also added a Concept One accessory pulley system, Canton oil pan, and some other goodies. This powerhouse is backed by a Tremec TKO 5-speed transmission with a Centerforce dual-disc clutch.

In addition to the fuel injected powertrain, the Mustang rides on a totally overhauled suspension from Detroit Speed. This system includes DSE frame connectors, 3-inch mini-tubs and a 4-link rear suspension. It also has JRi coilovers, and stopping power thanks to Wilwood disc brakes with 14-inch rotors, and 6-piston front calipers with 4-piston calipers in the back.

The crew had to do some heavy work on some parts of the build to make it all come together — like the extensive modifications they had to do to the driver’s side header to create clearance before installation. They also custom fabricated a roll cage, and it hardly ended there. Other goodies include a custom 3-inch exhaust system and Hooker mufflers.

This stunning Fastback rolls on a set of Bridgestone Pontenza tires, 225/40R18 in the front & 305/30ZR19 in the rear. These rubbers are wrapped around 18×8” and 19×11” Forgeline RB3C wheels, which are finished with satin black centers and brushed outers.

MetalWorks makes it a point to document their current and finished projects, so to see the mounds of pictures of the project, check out their documentation in pictures here.
