Rare 1967 Camaro Rally Sport Z/28 to Hit Mecum Auction

Mecum is one of those names that attracts some of the coolest muscle cars for sale, and this upcoming Indianapolis event is certainly no exception. We’ve got our eyes on one of the cars, and we had to share it. This 1967 Camaro RS-Z/28 is one of only 602 ever made, and it’s a rare color combo — so double the uniqueness of this Camaro.

The origins of this particular model are pretty fascinating. In a time where GM claimed it wasn’t really involved in racing, they released a 302 cubic-inch engine for the 1967 Z/28 created specifically for use in the SCCA’s Trans Am circuit. One of the other options was the Rally Sport equipment package, which gave the car hideaway headlights and a higher level of interior craftsmanship.

Out of the 602 Z28s produced, only a few were equipped as this one was. The color combination is a rare Nantucket Blue with white rally stripes, and gold interior accents. Since there were no emblems used on the Z/28 in 1967, the stripes are the biggest indicator that it’s a RPO Z28 Camaro. It has a 4-speed transmission, suspension upgrades, front disc brakes, and 15×6” wheels. Beyond the RS-Z/28 options, it’s also equipped with the cowl plenum intake that was available at an extra cost when the car was new.

Check it out at Lot F154. It will be up for grabs at the 2016 Indianapolis Mecum event from May 17th-21st.
