Official Release:
PRESTONE UNCOVERS 1972 AMC JAVELIN AMX AT SEMA — Prestone partnered with Ringbrothers to create celebratory build in honor of company’s 90th anniversary
Chicago, Ill. (October 31, 2017) – Today, Prestone® Products Corporation, the leader in underhood chemicals, unveiled a one-of-a-kind 1972 AMC Javelin AMX at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) convention. Plans for the custom Ringbrothers build began at SEMA 2016 and Prestone has been eager to reveal the incredible vehicle to an enthusiastic audience.
“We are thrilled to see the finished product,” said Steven Clancy, President for Prestone Products Corporation. “The passionate energy at SEMA makes it the perfect venue to show off our newest addition.”
Jim and Mike Ring have treasured the Javelin since childhood and knew immediately that it would be perfect for Prestone, another brand they are passionate about. With only 3,220 ever produced, this car embodies American muscle car history and automotive innovation.
The build includes a custom four-link in the rear with a 12-bolt GM axle and modernized braking system. Additionally, there were upgrades to the hood and fender and the overall car was painted in a yellow tone, as tribute to Prestone’s iconic color.
With only 12 months to complete the build, the Ring brothers were hard at work bringing this build to life. Utilizing 3D scanning and 3D printing for the first time, they employed the latest technology to make plugs and molds.
This innovation allowed them to speed up the build process as the Rings raced against the clock. Additionally, they used their trusted brand, Prestone, to get the car road ready.
“When we began our partnership with Mike and Jim last year, we entrusted them with a high stakes project that not only had a quick turnaround but would also be an integral part of our 90th Anniversary,” said Randy Fisher, Prestone’s VP of Marketing. “This Javelin AMX has far surpassed any of our expectations and we look forward to having it in our collection for the next 90 years.”
The build will be in Prestone’s booth throughout the SEMA Show and will also lead the company’s 90th anniversary Rally in Los Angeles, before the Los Angeles Auto Show. Make sure to follow the Prestone Javelin’s journey over the coming months!
