Video: This Isn’t a Phase, It’s a Martini Mustang

Research, design, decision — it’s the path to achieving that elusive ’wow’ factor. When you have the right vision, you get a true work of art. Steve Strope of Pure Vision has perfected the formula, and his Mona Lisa comes in the form of a rally-inspired 1966 Mustang Fastback. As Strope puts it, this car is “loud and fast art”, and he’s not kidding!

It’s not one single element that jumps out about this build, it’s the attention to every detail that keeps one looking at this machine. Every time you look at it, you seem to notice something else about it. Nothing was left untouched, but it hardly looks chopped up and put back together with. When you look at this Fastback as a whole, nothing looks out of place or unintentional. It’s a complete success, in more than one way.

It’s not just all looks when it comes to the Martini Mustang. This beauty is a serious performer. Powering the Mustang is another element of the ‘wow’ factor — under the hood is a Lotus Indy Car engine. The formerly proprietary Indy motor roars like a caged animal.

Back in the ’60s, Ford circulated the Mustang through Europe, where it did quite well in rally racing. The thought of Ford teaming up with the Martini Racing team to enter the Mustang into these circuits is what inspired this idea, theory if you will. The conceptualized product is perfectly executed.

Steve describes building custom cars as an illness, although it’s more akin to an addiction, really. The pride in seeing your final project, the ‘wows’, the idea realized, it’s what keeps every gear head coming back for the next fix. This Martini Mustang Fastback certainly inspires this fellow ‘artist’, are you ready to pick up a brush and get to work on your next masterpiece?
