Modifying musclecars dates back as far as 1964, shortly after the inaugural year GTO landed in the hands of a hot-rodder. You can argue that it goes back a bit earlier, with the “Swiss Cheese” 421 Catalinas, 409 Impalas, Max Wedge Mopars and the 406 Thunderbolt, but we’re sticking to the textbook definition of “muscle car” here!
Anyway, one of the first things that many gearheads applied to their showroom stocker-turned street racer (right after headers, a cam and a carb), were a set of chrome or finned valve covers. Not only did they provide a bit of uniqueness to your engine bay, but they were typically a couple of pounds lighter than the factory, stamped steel pieces.
Whether our friends at Edelbrock were feeling nostalgic or just wanted to fill the demand from their enthusiastic customer base remains to be seen, but they’ve just announced their Elite II Series valve covers for big-block Chevy, big-block Mopar and Ford FE powerplants! They’ve provided us some additional insight in their official press release below!
Official Release:
Elite II Series Valve Covers Now Available For Big-Block Chevy, Big-Block Chrysler and Ford FE
Torrance, CA – Edelbrock is excited to announce the expansion of their popular line of Elite II Series valve covers to now include new applications for big-block Chevy, big-block Chrysler and Ford FE. The original Elite Series accessories have been a staple in the Edelbrock performance catalog since 1985. The Elite II Series accessories are an all-new streamlined modern design that pays homage to the original.
They retain the classic raised fin look with gloss black accents in between the fins. Elite II Series valve covers are a heavy-gauge, die-cast aluminum construction with a high quality polished finish for a show-winning look. This new design provides a classic look that will make any engine stand out from the crowd.
Features:
- Brings the “classic fin-look” to your engine bay
- Now available for most BBC, BiG-Block Mopar and Ford FE applications
- Lightweight, aluminum construction saves weight over factory steel units
