2017 Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge Corvette Heads to Auction

If you’ve always wanted to own a ready-built classic street car, there’s one heading to an upcoming Barrett-Jackson auction you need to check out. This race winning 1972 Corvette is a monster that took down some serious competition during one of the 2017 Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge events, and it’s ready for a new home. Not only is it a race proven street car, it’s a build well-known for its origin story.

Heading to the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, AZ event later this month, this build started off with some level of fame and notoriety, known to many as the “48-Hour Corvette”. It was built in 16-hour increments over 3 days by the crew at RideTech in front of cameras for all to see. They started off with a low mileage, red C3 in fairly good condition, and upgraded nearly every inch of the car.

Powering the build is an LS7 dry-sump Lingenfelter engine that makes 649-horsepower. The engine is built to handle the harsh demands of racing, complete with forged internals and titanium valves. Backing the high-horsepower engine is a Tremec t56 Magnum 6-speed manual transmission with a Quarter Master triple disc clutch, which all feeds into a Currie 9″ IRS rearend.

RideTech also gave the Corvette their signature Track 1 suspension system with billet aluminum spindles, tubular StrongArm control arms, a set of Instinct electronic adaptive shocks that self-adjust to changing conditions, and electronic traction control. It also has the stopping power of massive Wilwood disc brakes and 6-piston forged calipers, has a Vintage Air system, custom Classic Instruments gauges, Kicker stereo, BFGoodrich Rival tires, and Forgeline wheels.

This combo allowed the C3 to set off on a winning streak, where it eventually became the winner of the 2017 Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge in Bowling Green. It has been freshly repainted and serviced, with many of the decals removed for a more street-friendly look. It does still come with a set of race decals to keep it connected to its race-winning background.
