Have you ever seen a Pontiac LeMans Sport Truck? Us neither. That’s probably because there’s really only one out there, and the odds of seeing it on the road are slim to none. We’ve crossed one on the interwebs, and it’s actually a pretty sweet little ride.

So what is a Pontiac LeMans Sport Truck? Not to trivialize it, but it’s basically a Pontiac LeMans on an El Camino platform. This Pontiac alternative to Chevy’s coupe utility pickup is a really good looking car — the Pontiac bumper is a great look on the platform.

This prototype doesn’t look like some whacky one-off concept car — it looks like it could’ve easily been produced as-is. There’s no flamboyant features, or in your face styling like a lot of concepts we’ve seen. It looks nice, standard, and normal.
It likely never saw the production line because GM already had the El Camino. Although GM was well-known for product dilution during the 60s and 70s, it never moved forward with a second vehicle on the platform.

Since the Chevy did dominate the niche, and crushed the Ford Ranchero in popularity, we can’t be too mad at GM for making the call not to mass produce the LeMans Sport Truck.

Currently, as this article is being written, a 1968 Pontiac LeMans Sport Truck Prototype is listed for sale on Hemmings. This factory built concept is 1-of-1 since the Pontiac coupe utility pickup was never actualized in production. It’s located in Birmingham, Alabama, and is listed for $49,000. This car has been Pontiac dealer owned since it was new.

With a little bit over 34k miles on the clock, this prototype has actually been driven a little bit, unlike most collectible, one-of-a-kind cars. Obviously, it’s a fully functional prototype as well. It includes the original window sticker, and original newspaper articles about the build.

In the ad, the seller states that “It is believed to have been responsible for the introduction of the GMC Sprint.” Which is an interesting idea, seems accurate too.

If you’re interested in this unique car, check it out before someone snatches it up!
