One Bad Muscle Car: 1970 Chevelle Built for Performance with Looks to Kill!

As the test mule for ABC Performance, you’d expect this car to be pretty mean, and it certainly lives up to its potential! Owned by Tony Grzelakowski, this 1970 Chevelle is both brawn and brains. The only mild part of this car is the interior, but everything else is pretty remarkable.

When Tony found this car, it was a rust-free barn find (of sorts) from Michigan. The goal was to make it a rolling testament of the work ABC Performance can do. To make this Chevelle the impressive beast that you see here, it took some work, a lot of which you can’t actually see. Powering this stunner is a 12.0:1 compression ratio, 380 cubic-inch engine. The core of this 585 horsepower build is a Dart SHP PRO block.

ABC Performance kicked off the suspension build with the boxed chassis, customized for torsional stiffness. Then fabrication work was done to the underbelly to accommodate for a Tremec T-56 Magnum 6-speed using a ABC crossmember. The project continued with ABC front upper and lower control arms, splined swaybars, and Viking Performance coil-overs.

The rear suspension has an ABC Performance 4-link setup, a bolt-on ABC coil-over conversion, and a full-floater rearend from Strange Engineering. Braking power comes courtesy of Wilwood disc brakes on all four corners — this setup consists of 6-piston calipers in the front, 4-piston calipers in the rear, and 14-inch rotors all around. It rolls on 315/30ZR18 BFGoodrich g-Force Rival tires, mounted on 18×10.5″ front & 18×11.0″ rear Forgeline DS3 wheels.

Its exterior appearance is pretty radical. While you might expect it to be mostly fiberglass to save weight, surprisingly, the body parts themselves are actually steel. The front bumper is made by Glasstek, but ABC customized it, so don’t expect to find it on the shelf anywhere. The air dam has a sharp link supported splitter — the rear wing is also link supported. This highly unique color is achieved not by paint, but by a 3M Garnet Matte Metallic vinyl wrap. Inside is a (somewhat) no-frills interior with most of the original elements.  It has custom bucket seats to accommodate the safety equipment, and Auto Meter Sport Comp gauges.
