The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS454 LS-6 is the kind of the muscle car era, and a highly sought after vehicle for any collection. When GM lifted the big engine ban in 1970, the gate was open to make a curvaceous muscle car and back it with a monstrous powertrain. This particular iconic Chevelle is restored to absolute perfection with a sexy red-on-red paint job, 4-speed, and has the original drivetrain!
Solid documentation will tell you everything you need to know about this Chevelle. It was sold new from British American Chevrolet Oldsmobile, Ltd. in Toronto, Canada. Restoration work was completed by Cam’s Classic Restorations in Vancouver, Canada. The restoration professionals made sure that this Cranberry Red LS-6 convertible would meet the criteria that made the car the king of the muscle cars to begin with.
Perhaps the most important part of the car is the original numbers matching 454/450hp LS-6 engine and drivetrain. Rick Nelson, a LS-6 Chevelle expert and authority, inspected the car, cowl tag, VIN, oil filter flange, transmission stamp, and rearend stamp to authenticate the car’s originality.
Terry Bride Racing Engines of Richmond, British Columbia, was the master who performed the thorough rebuild of the engine. He used a correct factory block with the correct broach marks, had never been decked, and was identified as block number T0313CRV — signaling that it came from the Tonawanda engine plant, and was made on March 13th.
The bores were then honed with fitted with Icon forged pistons, the rotating assembly was balanced, and engine reassembled with a COMP Cams solid-lifter roller cam that is identical to the factory LS-6 cam. It’s finished off with a correct code 291 set of cylinder heads, Winters aluminum intake, and Holley 800cfm 4-bbl carb. The engine is backed by a Muncie M22 4-speed manual that feeds into a 3.31:1 post rear.
All other details were brought up to factory spec, and this Chevelle received the very prestigious Gold Concours Certificate for Excellence, as well as the Judge’s Pick Award at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in 2016. This Chevelle is located at Mecum Auctions lot R402.
