For gearheads, cars that appear in movies steal the show. Movie cars definitely trump movie stars for us. That’s why when this eBay find of the day crossed our plate, we got a little star struck. Up for auction is the 1970 Dodge Challenger that starred in the movie Death Proof. Since our parent company won’t approve this purchase as a business expense, we’re hoping one of our readers is lucky enough to be able to ad it to their collection.
Quentin Tarantino used this Challenger in the 2007 action horror film that paid homage to many muscle cars of the ‘70s. It was driven in the film’s last climatic car chase, you can check out this very NSFW clip here to see it in action.
As you can tell by the window/door frames added for the movie, it hasn’t been changed from its big screen form. If you can think of any use for them, there are still camera mounts under the car. It also has the original fender tag that shows that it started life as a highly-optioned Challenger.
The 383 engine and 727 automatic transmission are in “good running” condition. Its current owner explains that “light” wiring and electrical work is need to make it a daily driver — which we’re really curious about.
Since it retired from its big acting gig, the Challenger has taken residence in Queensland, Australia. The current owner had purchased it with the intent of restoring it back to stock, but had a change of heart. Rather than letting it sit around collecting dust, they’re letting it go back to the U.S. to find a new owner — and we totally respect the owner for that! Check out the listing here.
We want to know what you would do with this Challenger if you bought it. Would you restore it to stock condition, or would you embrace its movie star form?
